MI vs GUJ: The Women’s Premier League’s debut season eventually began on Saturday, March 4 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai after months of buildup and much ado. The top women’s T20 championship in India begins with a match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai scored an enormous total of 207/5 in their allotted 20 overs after being given the opportunity to bat first. As the Giants came out to pursue the enormous target in the second inning, all eyes were focused on the star batter Beth Mooney. She sprained her ankle while taking the first run, though, and was forced to be retired hurt on 0* before she could even begin her innings (3).
Returning to the first inning, the Giants struck first, sending a shaky Yastika Bhatia back to the dugout after he could only muster one run off eight pitches. Hayley Matthews assumed responsibility after losing her opening partner and attacked the bowlers to make the most of the powerplay.
She smashed three fours and four enormous sixes during her innings to score a stunning 47 off just 31 balls. Nat Sciver-Brunt assisted her, and together they added 54 runs for the third wicket. When Giants made a comeback in the match, Brunt and Matthews were both dismissed in consecutive overs, leaving Mumbai at 77/3 after 10 overs.
Amelia Kerr and Harmanpreet Kaur raise Mumbai’s rating above 200.
Amelia Kerr and Captain Harmanpreet Kaur moved the game along by smashing the Giants’ bowling assault all over the field. They played a part in an 89-run stand that required only 42 balls.
Kaur left the game after hitting 14 boundaries and scored 65 runs off of 30 balls. Once her skipper was dismissed, Kerr assumed control and hit a brilliant 45* off 24 balls to push her team over the 200-run threshold.
In response, Giants’ innings have gotten off to a terrible start; after five overs, they were 16/4. Sabbhineni Meghana, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, and Ananabel Sutherland all made hasty returns to the pavilion thanks to Nat Sciver-two Brunt’s wickets, Issy Wong’s one wicket, and Saika Ishaque’s one wicket.
