ODI Series: On Friday, November 4, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan defeated Ireland by 128 runs in the opening ODI. Pakistan’s opener Sidra Ameen shattered batting records for fun. Pakistan has had three victories in as many games during the most recent ICC Women’s Championship cycle, displaying dominant play game after game.
The Women in Green chose to bat first on Friday against Ireland and put on an electrifying performance against the Irish bowling attack. In their match against the Irish ladies, Pakistan’s opening pair of Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen left their mark and were inscribed with centuries.
As Sidra and Muneeba destroy Ireland, records fall
Sidra Ameen produced a brilliant inning, scoring 176 runs off just 151 balls at a strike rate of 116.55. Muneeba scored 107 runs off 114 balls. Sidra’s innings ended up becoming the highest score by a Pakistani batter in an ODI. Additionally, her 221-run partnership with fellow centurion Muneeba set a new Pakistan 50-overs record for the highest partnership.
After Amelia Kerr (232*), Belinda Clark (229*), Deepti Sharma (188), and Chamari Athapaththu (178*) in the One-Day format, Sidra Ameen placed fifth with 176* runs.
The two players’ centuries helped the team to a massive score of 335 for 3 in the allotted 50 overs. It’s interesting that this was a record in and of itself because it marked the first occasion that the national team exceeded 300.
The strain on the visitors increased as the Irish team’s captain, Laura Delany, managed to score a half-century in response to the enormous total set by the Women in Green. Pakistan eventually prevailed, winning by 128 runs to take a 1-0 series lead in the three-match ODIs.
