Ireland Test Team: Paul Stirling, an Irish batter, will travel to Sri Lanka with the Ireland Test team and be available for the second Test. Following the completion of the white-ball series, the top-order batsman returned to Ireland from Bangladesh and will be absent from the lone Test match against Bangladesh, which will begin on April 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
A Test and two ODIs were originally planned for Ireland’s tour of Sri Lanka. The two ODIs were replaced with a Test because the hosts demanded more red-ball contests. Galle will host both Test matches from April 16 to April 28.
According to Andrew White, the national men’s selection for Cricket Ireland, Stirling was originally scheduled to travel with the team to Sri Lanka for the ODI series. He stated that he will concentrate more on red-ball cricket and will join the Test team for the second Test now that the fixtures have been changed to Test matches and the Bangladesh T20I series in Ireland has been postponed. Notably, Stirling has admitted that he decided to forego Ireland’s Test obligations this year so that he could rest up for a “jam-packed” 2023 calendar.
“Paul was originally scheduled to travel with the team to Sri Lanka for the ODI series. He will now have a stronger focus on red-ball cricket and will join the Test team for that second Test, however, as the matches have been changed to a Test match and the Bangladesh T20I series in Ireland has been postponed “In a statement,” White added.
One of Ireland’s busiest cricketers, Stirling participates in several short-format franchise competitions all around the world. He participated in all three of Ireland’s Test matches to date, which were all played in 2018 and 2019. He will surely greatly increase the starting lineup’s experience for Ireland.
