The Hundred, according to teen England star Alice Capsey, has been “crucial” for the women’s game.
The 18-year-old was instrumental in helping the Oval Invincibles defeat the Southern Brave in the championship game for the second year in a row.
She has kept her spot in the team and is currently concentrating on England’s white ball series against India.
Before the opening game on September 10, Alice Capsey expressed her hope for the future of women’s cricket.
“The Hundred has been crucial for the women’s game. Women’s cricket can be exciting and it’s about gaining momentum and getting more people to the game,” she said.
“We had new records, not just for standards of cricket, but also fans and attendance. I definitely hope it rolls on, it is making leaps and bounds. We are excited to be part of it, and we all enjoy playing it.”
For a teen, Keightley is a “memorable” coach
Outgoing coach Lisa Keightley gave Capsey her debut this season during the series against South Africa.
The series against India will provide her with another chance to be near Keightley and work for her, she said, adding that she is a “memorable coach for me.”
“She really puts players first, it’s very goal driven. We are putting all our focus on the India series,” she said.
After almost three years in the position, Keightley stated that she will leave her position as head coach of the England Women at the conclusion of the summer.
Capsey continued by saying that the team has moved over the disappointment of the Commonwealth Games and that this series represents a “new start.”
Before playing three ODIs later in September, England plays three IT20s against India to start the series.
