SA20 2023: Ahead of the inaugural SA20 season, veteran bowler Wayne Parnell of South Africa has been named captain of the Pretoria Capitals. The top-tier league’s inaugural season is scheduled to begin on January 10 and end on February 11 in 2023.
When the leadership position was revealed, Parnell was overjoyed and referred to it as a “honour” to lead the franchise.
“It’s a huge honour to be able to run the Pretoria Capitals organisation. It’s quite exceptional that the club management has put their trust in me to lead this team. I want to play a bold and daring kind of cricket and am excited to get started with the guys. I am ecstatic about this chance and am looking forward to huddling up with the guys soon,” the newly appointed skipper said when informed of the happenings.
The seasoned pacer has a tonne of expertise thanks to his participation in numerous major competitions worldwide. Parnell has also played in 245 T20 games, taking 247 wickets in that time. His best bowling figures were 5/30 at an average of 25.87.

Graham Ford, the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals, added that Wayne Parnell has a “dynamic vision” that will benefit the team heading into the season. On January 12, the team plays Sunrisers Eastern Cape to open their SA20 campaign.

Not only is he familiar with the majority of the players on our squad, having played with or against them quite extensively, but he’s also someone with a very dynamic outlook and personality, which I am confident will reflect in his leadership as well.
