Mumbai Indians: The Royal Challengers Bangalore scored their first win of the season against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians to kick off the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in a spectacular manner.
Tilak Varma’s exploits at the plate helped Mumbai Indians, who were batting first, score 171 runs off of 46 deliveries, an undefeated knock. However, Mohammed Siraj’s superb spell caused the Rohit Sharma-led team to struggle in the powerplay.
Siraj put early pressure on Mumbai by only allowing five runs in three overs and even dismissing the opener, Ishan Kishan. Siraj had taken a wicket and given up 21 runs in four overs towards the end of the first innings. Shane Bond, the bowling coach for Mumbai, could not help but compliment Siraj after the star Indian pacer’s hot run.
“You examine Siraj’s first three overs. He provided no width. He used his bouncer expertly, and Rohit (Sharma) should have been taken out. He offered us nothing to hit and had us take some strokes, which resulted in wickets. When a player attempts five runs, we may have received 29 in the power play on a tiny pitch. We were constantly playing catch-up after the match,” Bond made the following statement to the media.
“We wanted to boost the ante and reached 170 despite having a lengthy batting order. Therefore, I believe we are aware that, if we can get off to a good start, we can use our power to score a variety of runs. That first spell was excellent. Today, he was too good for us ” He added.
To maintain the momentum, Royal Challengers Bangalore
Bangalore defeated the five-time winners with ease after Mumbai scored 171 runs after the first innings. Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis both played outstanding performances. The RCB will now try to maintain the momentum into their remaining games and secure yet another victory.
