WPL: Alyssa Healy, a star cricketer for Australia, thinks the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has a great chance to compete with the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in the future. The stumper-batter said that given that many players are already making significantly more money than they had anticipated, the WPL has the potential to revolutionise women’s cricket in the years to come.
Healy also discussed Australia’s dominance and how the World Basketball League has aided their expansion. To maintain its position as the top domestic competition in the world, she thinks the tournament must stay up with the WPL and become more entertaining and lucrative.
“For eight years running, the WBBL has been the envy of women’s cricket, but there is no doubt that the WPL will put pressure on our domestic competition. Although it’s not solely about money, WPL players make more money in three weeks than they do in a full year of international duty.
We need to make sure the WBBL is lucrative and exciting enough for the best players to keep travelling to Australia,” Healy wrote in her blog on Cricket Australia’s website on Wednesday, if it is to keep up with the WPL and maintain its position as the best domestic tournament in the world.
The 32-year-old added that Aussies ought to start viewing professional cricket as an amusement option.
Healy continued, “I truly believe that the WBBL should be about entertainment: our showcase event where people fill the hill and see the finest players in the world do battle.”
Healy underperforms as UP loses to Delhi in the WPL
The Warriors needed a strong start in the second innings to meet their 212-run objective, and they got one when captain Alyssa Healy first smashed two back-to-back boundaries. The opener was batting on 24, but the Australian was unable to build on her start because Jess Jonassen outplayed her.
With the exception of Tahlia McGrath, who played some outstanding cricket at the DY Patil Sports Academy, the middle order quickly folded under pressure after her removal. The 27-year-old scored 90 runs off just 50 balls and attempted to rally UP, but no other batter could stand by her in the middle as UP fell 42 runs short.
