First-Class Cricket: Paine’s first-class career came to an end in Tasmania’s draw with Queensland in the Sheffield Shield’s championship game.
Tim Paine, a former Australia Test captain, has said his final peaceful goodbye to first-class cricket. When Paine’s domestic career came to an end, Tasmania and Queensland drew. He did inform his domestic side before the game, despite not having made any public declarations to that effect before the game.
Once the game ended sooner than expected, Paine received a guard of honour in recognition of his outstanding domestic cricket career. Although the 38-year-old skipper of Tasmania, Jordan Silk, announced Paine’s retirement, the 38-year-old did not formally attend a press conference to make the announcement.
With 154 first-class games played, including 35 Tests and 95 Sheffield Shield outings for Tasmania, Paine has had a phenomenal first-class career. His highest score was 215, and he totalled 6940 runs. Throughout his career, he scored three centuries.
He has been a fantastic player: Jordan Silk
Paine didn’t make an announcement about his decision to retire, but Tasmania’s captain Jordan Silk announced the 38-year-departure old’s from first-class cricket.
“He’s been a fantastic player for, um, 22 years of professional cricket, I believe. To live as long as he has required an extraordinary effort. Without a question, he will be missed behind the stumps. I won’t be playing, and I’m confident that many players today will agree that Tim Paine is the best goalkeeper Australia has ever produced. So, down here, we’ve been very blessed. And we wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” Silk told ESPNcricinfo.
“His level of living standards and the amount of income he is still producing are astounding given his age. He is always somebody you can trust to be working behind the scenes. I believe he provides all of our boys with a terrific example of work ethic and other such traits,” he added.
