Women’s IPL: The BCCI is doing everything possible to make the debut season of the Women’s IPL, which is scheduled to take place in March 2023, a huge success. Sources now indicate that the Indian Cricket Board would put out a tender for five teams, with a basic price of Rs 400 crore for each franchise.
The cricket board will soon release a tender document for e-auction. The e-auction is open to all current IPL franchises as well.
The long-awaited Women’s IPL will now take place after the General Body of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approved the league on October 18 at the 91st Annual General Meeting in Mumbai.
The event will in fact go a place, according to a statement made public by the board. “The General Body approved to conduct the Women’s Indian Premier League,” the press statement states.
The tournament will feature 20 league games, with each team facing the other twice. The teams that finish second and third will compete in the Eliminator, while the table toppers will advance through to the championship game. No more than five foreign cricketers from each squad may be included in the starting eleven.
“In order to have a competitive team and a well-balanced mix of domestic and foreign players, it has been decided informally to have five teams in the WIPL. Each team is allowed a maximum of 18 players and is not allowed to have more than six foreign players “All state associations were notified by BCCI in a note.
With the expansion of the sport in India and the nation’s status as runners-up at the 2020 T20 World Cup, calls for a women’s IPL have been increasingly vociferous. The Women’s Big Bash League began in Australia in 2016, after the Hundred debuted in the UK the previous year. Pakistan has also announced a women’s league for the following season.
