For the Gujarat Giants, an Ahmedabad-based team in the Women’s Premier League, Mithali Raj, a former captain of India and one of the major figures in women’s cricket, has been brought on as a coach and advisor (WPL).
The former cricketer, who has represented women’s cricket for the national team, will now publicise the game at the grassroots level for the franchise owned by Adani Sportsline. Mithali confirmed accepting the position because she wants to “strengthen the sporting ecology.”
“Ladies’ cricket is constantly expanding, and this kind of encouragement will surely inspire future women to think about playing cricket professionally. I think that corporate involvement with a high degree of influence will speed India’s eventual rise to greater prominence,” according to Mithali as reported by ESPNcricinfo. “This degree of influence can strengthen the sporting ecosystem and improve possibilities for female athletes.”

Adani Enterprises director Pranav Adani was thrilled to have Mithali on board and said that hiring someone of the calibre of the legendary Indian athlete would make it easier to identify talent in a variety of sports.
