WPL Auction: According to reports, the eagerly anticipated Women’s Premier League auction will take place at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai during the second week of February. Approximately 1000 cricket players from around the world are said to have registered their names to participate in the gala tournament prior to the major event. Only five franchises will compete in the inaugural season, meaning only 100 to 120 cricketers will be able to locate a team.
According to a source following the situation, both Indian and foreign cricket players are taking part in a very healthy way. This information was confirmed to News18 by the source. Numerous international cricketers have since shared photos of themselves signing up, with some, like Alexandra Hartley and Alyssa Healy, even expressing a wish to sign with Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2019 season.
“There has been a lot of interest, and up to 1000 cricketers have registered for the WPL auction. Both Indian and foreign athletes participated in a very healthy way,” the source said.
Even though the auction is scheduled to happen in around a week, the precise date of the event is yet unknown. However, a team representative of a new WPL squad claims that it is most likely to occur between February 11 and February 13.
“There hasn’t been any formal message yet, but we are working nonstop to prepare for the February 11–February 13 window. It makes sense because, before that, the ILT20 and SA20 will be nearing completion, and most WPL teams with a presence there will find it challenging to balance the two, some even three,” the official added.
BCCI is seeking bids for the title sponsor
The BCCI has requested bids for title sponsorship for the first five editions of the competition, which is scheduled to start in just over a month.
“Interested parties are requested to follow the procedure outlined in Annexure A and email the details of money paid for the procurement of the RFP to rfp@bcci.tv. It is made clear that the RFP papers can only be distributed when payment of the non-refundable RFP cost has been confirmed,” according to a BCCI statement from January 28.
