Darts Championship: Fallon Sherrock is adamant about returning to darts’ largest platform and continuing to be a trailblazer for women.
After her remarkable performance at the PDC World Championship in 2019, the 27-year-old immediately rose to prominence as the face of women’s darts. Despite reaching the final of the Nordic Darts Masters last year, she has faded from view after failing to secure a PDC Tour Card for the year 2022.
Sherrock returns to the big stage this weekend as part of a superb line-up for the US Darts Masters, which starts off the 2022 World Series of Darts at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“It is my first time to America and there couldn’t be a better place to come,” Sherrock said. “It is really exciting, I am really excited I have still got the opportunity to come.
“I enjoy performing in front of large audiences. It was a pain in the neck not to receive my tour card. I gave it my all, but it wasn’t good enough at the moment, but I enjoy being on stage.
“I believe that if I can win a match here, attempting to get my foot in the door in America would be one of the best things I could do in terms of publicising myself.
“I feel really privileged that I have got the opportunity to represent women in darts, playing in this event and others. Hopefully, I can go with a bang.”
Sherrock will begin her campaign on Friday evening in New York against qualifier Leonard Gates. Also competing are world champion Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson, and James Wade.
She is presently ranked second in the PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit, behind Lisa Ashton, and a top-two finish would qualify her for the World Championship in December at the Alexandra Palace.
“My target for the rest of the year is getting to Ally Pally again, do well in the women’s events, play well in the World Series events and establish myself on this circuit,” Sherrock said.
“I’m attempting to challenge the players and play at a level where I can compete in the main events at home.” All of the events that I want to qualify for are on my list, and my goal is to get back to where I was last time and improve.
“This is what I could achieve on a regular basis if I carry on achieving these goals. This is something I want to keep doing.”
