Darts News: Fallon Sherrock will begin her quest for a PDC Tour Card on Sunday at the 2022 UK Qualifying School, and she believes her confidence is “so high” right now.
Over the course of seven days in Milton Keynes, ‘The Queen of the Palace,’ who continues to break new ground for women in darts, has the potential to clinch a position on the professional circuit.
More than 650 players compete in Qualifying School, or Q-School, for the 32 Tour Cards available. In the United Kingdom and Germany, parallel events are taking place.
Sherrock initially made a global audience aware of her talent at Alexandra Palace during the 2020 PDC World Championship.
She beat Mensur Suljovic in the second round after being the first woman to win a match at the flagship competition. Chris Dobey ended the 27-year-run old’s in the third round.
Following her success on the Ally Pally stage, she received a slew of invites to compete. Many, however, died as a result of the global pandemic.
Sherrock told the PDC ahead of Q-School, “I think after lockdown and then after I lost all of these possibilities, I just needed to let it go.”
“I figured your darts weren’t where they should be, and it was a fun way for me to show the world what I’m capable of.”
She was denied a second dream run in the World Championship when she returned to Alexandra Palace in December 2021. Sherrock was defeated 3-2 by Steve Beaton, who was making his 31st consecutive appearance.
However, both players gave outstanding performances, and the match marked the end of a successful year for the 27-year-old.
Sherrock stated, “I’m quite delighted with the last 12 months.” “I never expected it all to come in one package, especially with the Grand Slam, the Women’s Series, and obviously the World Series events I played in.”
“Yes, I had lost to Peter Wright before the Grand Slam, but it was in a long format. I was under the impression that because I’d done it against Michael [van Gerwen], I could do it against Peter. It’s made me believe in myself a little more.”
Sherrock alludes to a competition he had with Michael van Gerwen at the Nordic Masters in Copenhagen. After stunning Dimitri Van den Bergh in the semi-finals, Van Gerwen had to come from behind to defeat Sherrock 11-7 in the final.
Sherrock had shown her battling qualities and capacity to keep calm under pressure when she came back from a 7-1 deficit against Van den Bergh.
Sherrock feels in great shape heading into Q-School, because to the confidence she earned from her battles with Wright and Van Gerwen, her performance and run at the Grand Slam of Darts, and her ongoing development as a player.
“Right now, my confidence is sky-high, and I truly believe in myself,” Sherrock said.
“Before, I believed I could play, but whether or not I could was another matter.” I had no idea which game would be on the stage.
