Darts News: After his most recent victory at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam, Gerwyn Price issued a warning to his rivals in the sport, claiming that he will be “unbeatable” in the years to come.
Top-ranked After a thrilling 11-10 victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode at the AFAS Live on Sunday, Price won the World Series championship for the second time in three years. He finished with a 100.14 average in the championship and won the top prize of £70,000.
In the latter stages of a thrilling match, “The Iceman” delivered, winning with finishes of 146, 121, and 116.
Price’s triumph over Van Duijvenbode gave him his eighth televised championship in four years, but the 37-year-old claims he hasn’t yet reached the full extent of his abilities.
“I reckon in three years’ time I will pretty much be unbeatable,” declared the 2021 World Champion.
“Everyone else that is here now is experienced. Michael Smith, Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen – even Jonny Clayton did a lot of BDO stuff with Wales.
“I’m really new to this compared to those players, so another three years where I can improve a lot more, and I will be very tough to beat.”
The Welshman’s Premier League campaign was derailed by a fractured hand at the beginning of 2022, but in recent months, he has made a strong comeback to form.
Price just made his first World Matchplay final appearance, and he also competed in the Queensland Darts Masters final last month. A fortnight later, he won the New Zealand Darts Masters in Hamilton.
“It is always nice to win,” said Price, who now sets his sights on claiming a second World Grand Prix title at Leicester’s Morningside Arena from October 3-9.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the World Series or TV ranking events – it fills you with confidence, especially with the World Grand Prix coming up.”
He continued: “If I can start off as I have in previous years, there is no reason why I can’t go and win that title again.
