Darts News: Michael van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, has stated that he would undergo surgery to treat the carpal tunnel syndrome in his right arm.
Michael Van Gerwen disclosed on Twitter that he has been suffering from a “tingling sensation in my throwing hand and arm” for some time and has been receiving therapy for it.
However, the Dutchman will undergo surgery on June 14 – the day after the Premier League play-offs in Berlin – and will therefore miss the World Cup of Darts event that follows.
In a message on Twitter, he said: “I’ve had a tingling sensation in my throwing hand and arm for quite some time now. Carpal tunnel syndrome was discovered during a medical examination.
“I’ve been getting treatment for a while now to help with the symptoms so that I can keep playing at a high level. However, it has become evident that I will require surgery to permanently resolve this issue.
“It is disappointing to miss the World Cup but, my management, family and medical advisors agree that it is the right time to fix the problem.
