A drunk Benjamin Pavard was penalised by Bayern Munich for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The French defender was caught driving while intoxicated following a home match against the German record champion and briefly lost his driver’s licence.
A drunk Benjamin Pavard was fined by Hasan Salihamidzic
Although the incident happened a few weeks ago, Bild just just made it known on Tuesday. Pavard was approached by technical director Hasan Salihamidzic, who ultimately forced him to pay a five-figure fine. This was also confirmed by Salihamidzic after Internazionale’s Champions League match. But it was eight weeks ago. We immediately began outlining it.
Although the news didn’t become public until Tuesday, Pavard was unmoved by the uproar around him. In lieu of Matthijs de Ligt against Inter, the 26-year-old international, who was lately in the news for supposedly whining about not receiving enough playing time, started at centre defence and played well. To emphasise this, Pavard scored a header goal after 30 minutes.
Given that Noussair Mazraoui typically opposes Pavard at right back, coach Julian Nagelsmann was delighted with his performance. “Benji acknowledged his mistake and corrected himself. It is one, there can be no doubt about that, but you have to move past the things that happened in the past. I’m happy he scored a critical goal on a trying day.”
Salihamidzic also commended Pavard, who scored in the Champions League match against Barcelona last week as a replacement. “Benji did well in his competitions. He displayed the kind of player he is today by playing sovereignly. For instance, the French world champion, who reportedly also found his supporting position annoying, occasionally let his feet speak.”
Thanks in part to Pavard’s goal, Bayern finished the group stage with a perfect record of six victories from six games. Three straight clean groups for the Bavarians in the Champions League is a record. Bayern also established a new club record by scoring 22 goals in a Champions League home game.
