Ajax vs FC Volendam: Alfred Schreuder started Brian Brobbey as the striker for Ajax’s home game against Excelsior. As a result, we infer that Mohammed Kudus is no more preferred as a striker; rather, the twenty-year-old attacker is.
Last week, Brobbey started on the bench against FC Volendam and had to sit through a lengthy portion of Wednesday night’s Champions League match against Napoli. Beginning in early September, Schreuder frequently chose a line-up with Kudus as the striker. Along with others, Steven Bergwijn, Steven Berghuis, and Dusan Tadic support Brobbey in his battle with Excelsior. In the Napoli game, the latter was suspended.
Ajax vs FC Volendam: Brian Brobbey’s brace slowly pushing, Kudus away from the starting lineup?
Before kickoff at ESPN, Schreuder discussed the rivalry between Brobbey and Kudus. “Brian is a deep-lying striker. That influenced my decision to field him today, but I also did so because we prefer to have new players on the field. There are now two modifications. Additionally, there is something we recently learned from the Champions League,” the Ajax coach stated.
After the Champions League game with Napoli, Brobbey made some statements that he had no issue with. The striker said he felt he should have been added to the team much sooner. “He is merely responding to a question that has been posed. I used to always remark as a player that I would be brought in too late,” said Schreuder.
“We have Brian, a striker, on board for the long haul. He has started six of the ten league games, including this one. I’ve said from the beginning that he will receive enough minutes. I won’t have to sit with him again after that. Who contends that Kudus isn’t a true striker? I believe he has also turned up a little. He just performed admirably. In nine games, he has eight goals. I believe you excel as a striker,” the Dutchman concluded.
