Ajax’s Remko Pasveer had a frustrating afternoon on Sunday. The only shot on goal that the Ajax goalkeeper had to deal with against NEC immediately resulted in a goal. For the 39-year-old closing post, it may have been his last game under the bar with the team from Amsterdam, now that Gerónimo Rulli has been presented.
In conversation with ESPN, Pasveer talked about his afternoon. “I’ve only had a few balls in between where I could get in and make it easier for the defense. But other than that I haven’t really had anything to do. I think it was very good defensively and we have to finish our own chances in the first half to make it easier for ourselves. Then you see that things can suddenly turn around in a standard situation,” the goalkeeper referred to the goal of NEC striker Landry Dimata from a free kick.
For Pasveer it seems to have been his last game for the time being. Ajax paid millions to Villarreal this week to take over Rulli and trainer Alfred Schreuder made it clear at his press conference on Friday that the Argentinian was the first goalkeeper. However, the Ajax coach has not yet communicated this with Pasveer.
“Today I was the first keeper and I haven’t heard anything about that from the trainer yet. We will see. I always give my best and I’m a person who never gives up, so we keep going. It’s up to the trainer, he has to clarify that. I haven’t heard anything yet, so I’m still going for what I’ve been working on all season: winning the championship,” said Pasveer.
He concluded, “I think it is good that the club is looking to the future”
The experienced goalkeeper, who has an expiring contract, understands that Ajax is looking at the long term. He concluded, “I think it is good that the club is looking to the future. They should too. For the rest it remains to be seen I guess. Rulli is of course not yet eligible to play. So, it is difficult to say anything about that, it will have to be seen. I’m doing my best, what’s best for Ajax, we have to do.”
