Aminata Diallo returns to playing football at a professional level. The midfielder is suspected of involvement in the abuse of former teammate Kheira Hamraoui and seemed to have no future in football, but is now going to work at Levante.
Diallo has been without a club since her contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired in the summer of 2022. She was arrested for a second time in September, but has so far not been convicted. Finding a new club nevertheless promised to be a difficult affair and there were rumors that she had ended her career.
Surprisingly, however, Levante has announced that it will team up with the seven-time international from France. Diallo has signed a contract until the end of the season, with an option for an additional year.
The fact that Levante comes to her can be explained by the presence of trainer José Luis Sánchez Vera, who worked with Diallo in the second half of the 2020/21 season. At the time, Sánchez Vera was the trainer of Atlético Madrid, which rented the player from PSG for half a season. She did not play a single game for Atlético, but still has fond memories of the collaboration.
Diallo’s note to the supporters
Levante is considered a major club in Spanish women’s football. Levante is currently in second place in the league between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The club became champions three times this century and finished third each time in the past three seasons.
As could be expected, the reactions to the transfer have been mixed. Followers of the account of the Levante women’s team react mostly disapprovingly to the tweet confirming the arrival of Diallo. The French herself is looking forward to her new adventure, “I am very happy to be here. I am well acquainted with José and his way of working. I think he is a great trainer, you can see that in the club’s ranking. He convinced me to come here.”
