In a match between Arsenal and Leicester City (with the former initially leading 1-0), Eddie Nketiah was made to pay for his insane red card just two minutes after Jamie Vardy stole a late draw from the bench.
With a nervous win at the Emirates, the Gunners looked set to keep their European dream alive, but had to remain content with a draw eventually.
Leicester had been caught on the counter with Arsenal’s man of the moment dominant again by Bukayo Saka after crushing the early goings.
The youngster has freed down the right side and slid a lovely low pass through at the far post to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who duly slotted home to make it 1-0.
Aubameyang aimed to return the favour to Saka moments after a break for drinks. But Caglar Soyuncu cut out his square pass to keep Saka from achieving an almost assured target.
The Gunners kicked into high gear and created opportunities for Hector Bellerin and Alexandre Lacazette. There was even a deflected free-kick from David Luiz after the break.
But goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel remained determined to keep the lead of the Arsenal at one. Luiz’s shot, too, brought in a good reflex save from Schmeichel.
At the other end, Jamie Vardy picked a divine cross from strike partner Kelechi Iheanacho, but Emiliano Martinez comfortably saved the first attempt to volley from the frontman.
Arsenal was then reduced to 10 men in the 71st minute after marching orders were given to Eddie Nketiah for a high boot on James Justin, even though he initially receiving a yellow card.
The youngster was submitted only minutes before, and the referee upgraded the punishment to a red after consulting with the VAR pitch side monitor.
In the end, it would prove costly to him and to Arsenal. Jamie Vardy defied a lengthy VAR investigation in the 85th minute for a possible offside to even the scores with a fine first-time finish.
Given the one man advantage, Leicester produced very little as the game wounded, effectively meaning that both sides had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
