Arsenal’s Zinchenko thinks it is too early to talk about the title for Arsenal after the victory over Manchester United. However, the British media thinks otherwise. The Ukrainian left back still has nice words for his old club PSV.
“Arsenal the new champion? I understand everyone is talking about this,” Zinchenko told Viaplay. “We shouldn’t look too far ahead, we should take it step by step and keep both feet on the ground. If we do our best every day, we’ll see where we end up. Everything is possible.”
Zinchenko, who played the 2016/17 season on a rental basis for PSV, also sometimes thinks back to his time in Eindhoven. He added, “I still follow PSV. I know most people might say I haven’t been successful at it. But that season has been so important to my career. It opened my eyes on several levels. I am so grateful to everyone.”
The good old days of English football
According to British media, Arsenal is the title favorite in the Premier League after the victory over Manchester United . The clash at the Emirates Stadium between The Gunners and The Mancunians revived old times, the newspapers noted.
“This was Arsenal against United as we can remember it: full throttle, relentless, breathless. English football needs this rivalry. It is good that they are back,” said The Daily Mail about the victory of league-leaders Arsenal, who last won the Premier League in 2004. They further wrote, “We’ve longed for those legendary duels in the 2000s. It was a clash as it should be: two drunk boxers who refused to throw in the towel.”
The Guardian states that both Arsenal and United have climbed out of a deep valley, but that The Gunners are much further in the ‘process’ than manager Erik ten Hag’s team. Arsenal are the fifth club in Premier League history to gain 50 or more points midway through the season. “You see something of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in this Arsenal: the way they press, the deliberate chaos, the freedom to try pretty much anything they want because they always trust themselves to win the ball back afterwards. Arsenal become champions. They won’t say it themselves and maybe they don’t even believe it themselves, but there is no better or more complete team in England,” the article read.
