AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham secured a ticket for the Europa League on Sunday on the final day of Serie A, but the last league game with Spezia ( 2-1 ) also produced bad news. Tammy Abraham was out with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.
Roma must adjust transfer plans due to serious injury on final day
The first diagnosis is that Abraham has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, as a result of which the English striker is sidelined for months. Roma may not be able to call on the 25-year-old attacker again until 2024, who did not have a great second season in Rome with only nine goals in all competitions.
Nevertheless, according to Italian media, Roma hoped that Abraham would be one of the players who would bring in money this summer. Those plans can put an end to it, now that the England international seems to be sidelined for months. Instead, the club itself has to look for an extra attacker.
It is certainly not the first time that a player from the Roma selection has suffered a cruciate ligament injury. It has been happening regularly in recent years. Nicolò Zaniolo was sidelined for a long time due to the same injury. This season, defender Marash Kumbulla was also hit by fate.
Inter goalkeeper had to wait 7059 days (19 years) for his second match
Alex Cordaz played his second game for Internazionale on Sunday. The goalkeeper is 40 years old and made his debut nineteen years ago.
Cordaz made his debut for Inter on 4 February 2004, as first goalkeeper Francesco Toldo was sent off. Cordaz had to wait no less than 7059 days for his second game, but got it against Torino on Sunday. Because Samir Handanovic got a crowd change from trainer Simone Inzaghi, Cordaz was allowed to fill in. The 41-year-old goalkeeper was in goal for 25 minutes. In the years after his debut, Cordaz played for Spezia, Lugano, Cittadella, Parma and Crotone, among others.
“We always joke with him and the other guys. He’s the one who keeps the group together,” says Handanovic about Cordaz. “Maybe he hasn’t been on the field much, but he’s always meant a lot behind the scenes. He is a positive boy, with whom I immediately had a good friendship. He deserves to play more.”
Whether that will happen remains to be seen: Cordaz’s contract with Inter expires at the end of June.
