AZ Alkmaar transfer roundup: The club says it has things in order for the second half of the season. The Alkmaar club hopes to welcome fresh blood in one position.
“In principle, I expect a quiet transfer month,” says technical director Max Huiberts. “We are only looking for an experienced keeper.”
After the loan of Peter Vindahl to 1. FC Nürnberg , AZ is a bit thin in the keepers, also because Sem Westerveld was injured at the training camp. Next week there will be more clarity about the seriousness of the injury, but the talented goalie is out of circulation for the time being.
Trainer Pascal Jansen would also like to see another keeper coming, “The only thing we are focusing on is an extra goalkeeper. That has our attention at the moment. In Peter we had a relatively experienced goalkeeper behind Hoby Verhulst. We want to create that situation again. In the short term we want to present another goalkeeper. Other than that we have things well organized and we are ready for two half of the season.”
It is possible that 22-year-old Peer Koopmeiners will be (temporarily) said goodbye, who longs for more playing time in the main force than he has now been given. “We have made an agreement with him that he must play at the highest level,” says Huiberts. “We don’t want to sell him, but a loan agreement with an Eredivisie club could be an option for the second half of the season.”
Pascal Jansen’s contract
In related news, Pascal Jansen is going to extend his contract with AZ. The trainer verbally agrees with the Alkmaarders about a longer stay.
Jansen took up the position of head coach of AZ in December 2020. As successor to the dismissed Arne Slot, he started working. To the satisfaction of both parties, because the trainer will extend his expiring contract next summer until mid-2025.
Jansen sat down with the club management, “And actually we were out pretty quickly,” he said at the New Year’s reception. “I feel very valued here and I have a great group of players. What more could a trainer want?”
AZ has also reached agreement with head of education Paul Brandenburg on a new contract. He will sign until mid-2028, it was announced at the New Year’s reception of the Alkmaar club.
