Barcelona has informed manager Ronald Koeman that they are willing to offer him a new contract next summer. However, they will only do so if he meets certain targets they have set for him for the remaining season. So, among other of today’s interesting Barcelona football news, Koeman needs to meet targets to extend his Barcelona contract.
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman’s contract expires at the end of this 2021-22 season.
However, the Dutch coach has long been the subject of speculation about his future, even before now.
Many football enthusiasts even speculated, back when he got the job, that Barcelona had brought him in as a stop-gap.
Fans theorized Koeman would only stick around at Camp Nou until those in charge in the club in Catalunya could bring in their preferred target, Al-Sadd boss Xavi.
Barcelona Football News – Koeman Needs to Meet Targets
But now, according to Goal, Barcelona are actually willing to keep Ronaldo Koeman as head coach of the club.
In fact, president Joan Laporta has made him a conditional offer of a new contract.
This contract will only become active if the Dutchman meets certain goals this year, both on and off the field.
Some of these aims and terms are fairly common and straightforward. For example, Laporta expects Koeman to remain composed under the pressure of being Barcelona manager.
Further, he expects the manager to maintain his cool in front of the media even amidst rumours about his future.
Unsurprisingly, there is also pressure on Koeman to continue delivering results while adhering to the club’s ‘Cruyffista philosophy’. However, president Laporta has also laid out some ground rules for how he must do so.
The president expects Koeman to stick to a 4-3-3 formation. Laporta also wants all performances to resemble the 4-2 win over Real Sociedad on the season’s opening weekend.
Furthermore, Barcelona have demanded from Koeman that he must give La Masia graduate Riqui Puig a central role this season.
Barca basically want Koeman to give the 22-year-old far more minutes than he has seen so far under the Dutchman.
Laporta recently lost young Ilaix Moriba to RB Leipzig (football transfers). And thus, he now appears adamant that he will not lose another academy gem.
For this reason, the Barcelona president wants Koeman to promote Puig to the starting lineup soon.
