Bayern Munich have quit the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland because the Bayern CEO finds Haaland’s €100m fees unimaginable.
According to the club’s future CEO Oliver Kahn, moving Erling Haaland to Bayern Munich is “unimaginable” at this time.
The Bundesliga club’s future CEO has ruled out a summer swoop for the prolific striker of their German counterparts, Dortmund.
The Race for Haaland
Haaland is attracting attention from a number of top clubs heading into the summer transfer window.
After all, just 20-year-old Haaland has established himself as one of the best frontmen and goal scorers in Europe.
After joining Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, he’s crossed the 20-goal mark already this (his second) season.
In fact, he has scored 25 goals across 26 Bundesliga appearances in the 2020-21 campaign.
And Bayern were among interested in a swoop for the Norwegian.
However, their soon-to-be CEO claims that they won’t be able to match his price tag in the current financial climate.
Bayern CEO Finds Haaland’s €100m Fees Unimaginable
Oliver Kahn is a director at Bayern Munich, who, later this year, will succeed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as CEO.
“Sorry, whoever spoke about that didn’t understand the situation,” Kahn told Bild. “A package that costs – as we heard – over €100m is unimaginable for FC Bayern at the moment.”
Kahn, himself a former Germany goalkeeper, went on to insist that Bayern already have a superstar goal scrorer.
The Bundesliga leaders can continue to rely on Robert Lewandowski as their main source of goals for the foreseeable future.
After all, Lewandowski has hit 46 goals across all competitions this term.
“Robert still has a two-year contract here. His performances cannot be questioned. He’s scored 39 goals [in the Bundesliga] so far!” Kahn said.
“Just for that, we don’t have to think about Haaland today. Robert can keep this level for a few more years.”
