Brazil 2-4 Senegal: Brazil suffered a painful defeat against Senegal. Pending the announcement of Carlo Ancelotti as the new national coach, the South Americans let themselves eat the cheese of the bread. Partly thanks to two hits from Sadio Mané, the Africans were too strong.
Senegal dominates powerless Brazil, which is waiting for Ancelotti
Without Neymar, but with a team full of prominent names, the Divine Canaries took on Senegal. Interim national coach Ramon Menezes had Vinícius Júnior, Marquinhos, Ederson and Eder Militão at his disposal, among others. At Senegal, Mané was the eye-catcher.
The five-time world champion completed the international match pending the presentation of Ancelotti as the new national coach. The Italian should hold sway in South America by mid-2024. Until then, however, the Brazilians will have to wait a while. And that seemed to happen exactly against Senegal.
Lucas Paquetá, winner of the Conference League with West Ham United, initially opened the score. After that, Senegal brutally began to take control. Wing forward Habib Diallo quickly came up with an answer and scored the equalizer. As a result, the teams went into the break in balance.
In the second half, Senegal completely threw off the shyness. Thanks to an own goal by Marquinhos, the Africans took the lead shortly after the break. And within ten minutes of the break, Mané also struck. On a pass from Diallo, the Bayern Munich attacker hurt the Brazilians for the third time.
Marquinhos himself caused the reaction of the Divine Canaries within an hour of play. The seasoned defender scored the tying goal, after which the Senegalese goal was surrounded. Menezes used all five of his substitutions to force the equalizer, but Brazil eventually broke down on Senegal. Deep in injury time, Mané even made it 2-4 and underlined why Brazil is waiting so hopefully for Ancelotti’s entrance.
Brazil concedes largest number of goals since World Cup trauma
Brazil conceded the largest number of goals against on Tuesday evening since the historic defeat in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup against Germany ( 1-7 ). According to the Brazilian media, it cannot be seen separately from the lack of a definitive successor to national coach Tite.
Tite said goodbye to the Seleção after being eliminated in the quarterfinals at the World Cup in Qatar after more than six years. Since then, the Brazilian federation (CBF) has fully committed to the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian top coach was charmed by that interest, but respected his contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2024. An agreement now appears to be near. In the meantime, Ramon Menezes, originally the Brazil Under-20 coach, does the honors.
