Zakaria Aboukhlal has emphatically put himself in Brighton & Hove Albion’s radar after his first season at Toulouse. Albion, among others, has a concrete interest in the 23-year-old attacker.
Battle for Aboukhlal: options in England, Spain and Germany
After coming over from AZ, Aboukhlal quickly became a basic player at Toulouse. He made 37 appearances in Ligue 1. The winger did not stand out so much with dribbles, but mainly with his return. At the end of the season, the tally stood at ten goals and five assists in the league. In the tournament for the Coupe de France, the Moroccan international also scored five times for Toulouse, which won the tournament by beating Nantes in the final.
Brighton are one of the clubs seriously interfering in the battle for Aboukhlal, as first reported by The Daily Mail. The attacker is also coveted by Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen. The former PSV youth player still has a contract in Toulouse until mid-2026, which means that a nice transfer fee beckons for the French club. After a loan to Birmingham City, Hannibal Mejbri will return to Manchester United this summer. The question is for how long, because Borussia Dortmund, among others, is closely monitoring the situation of the twenty-year-old talent.
Ten Hag has to make a decision: Dortmund is aiming for United talent
In other Premier League transfer news, Erik ten Hag let Hannibal make flying hours in Birmingham last season. In 38 appearances in the Championship, the midfielder has scored a goal and five assists (and ten yellow cards). Hannibal hopes to put himself in the spotlight at Old Trafford, but it is not yet clear whether Ten Hag likes the Tunisian.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Hannibal normally gets a chance during the United States pre-season tour. Nevertheless, it cannot be ruled out that United will let the talent go earlier. Borussia Dortmund would be willing to pay fifteen million euros including bonuses. It is not clear whether United is open to a final sale.
Sell on clause might come into play
Hannibal came over from AS Monaco four years ago for ten million euros. It is clear that United want to make a profit on the player. The English superpower may choose the same route as Zidane Iqbal, who is about to sign a contract with FC Utrecht. United has included a future sell on clause in that commitment.
Hannibal has so far come within the lines three times in an official United game. He made his debut on the final day of the 2020/21 season visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers.
