Robert Andrich scored a 90th-minute equalizer to reclaim one dramatic point for Bayer 04 Leverkusen. So, in last night’s Bundesliga football news, Andrich’s last-minute goal saved Bayer away in Berlin, against hosts Hertha Berlin.
Bayer Leverkusen snatch a deserved point at the Olympiastadion for the first time since the 2018/19 season, thanks to Andrich.
But this draw has extended their Bundesliga run without a victory to four matches.
The 1-1 draw does little to help either side as Hertha have now gone winless two matches in a row. At the same time, Leverkusen failed to sneak into the top-4, and they’re 10 points behind the leading Bayern Munich.
Bundesliga Football Results – Andrich’s Last-minute Goal Saved Bayer
Neither Leverkusen nor Hertha Berlin created too many clear scoring opportunities during the early exchanges of the game. Although, the visitors looked slightly more comfortable when it came to pushing the lines forward.
Leverkusen thought they had bagged the opener midway through the first half. But after the referee determined the ball had previously gone out of play, he ruled the goal out.
Hertha improved as the game went on, and grabbed the first goal of the night just 3 minutes.
Then around the half time break, Stevan Jovetic controlled the ball inside the box. He drilled a thunderous strike past Lukas Hradecky with absolute quality.
Overall, Hertha did not dominate the game in any way. But they were more effective in the final meters and that was enough to give them the initial lead.
The visitors looked sluggish and uncomfortable in the second half, and while Bayer never gave up on their attacking approach. They needed around 20 minutes to create truly dangerous chances – most notably through substitutes Nadiem Amiri and Karim Demirbay.
Hertha were happy to play on the counter with Jovetic as their most dangerous player once again. Even so, Jovetic often came upfront far too isolated.
Leverkusen made several changes in the final minutes and it seemed they were destined for defeat.
But Robert Andrich had other ideas as the 27-year-old midfielder took advantage of a rebound after a free-kick. And he slotted the ball from very close range in the 90th minute to earn a dramatic point.
