Chelsea have confirmed the long-awaited arrival of Christopher Nkunku. The 25-year-old attacker comes from RB Leipzig for around sixty million euros and signs a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
RB Leipzig playmaker Nkunku is first summer reinforcement for Chelsea
It has been clear for a long time that Nkunku would make the million-dollar transfer to Chelsea, but confirmation from the clubs has not been forthcoming so far. Now finally white smoke has come from London and Leipzig. Both clubs are not commenting on the transfer fee, but it is clear that the French international is the most expensive outgoing player in Leipzig’s club history.
With Nkunku, Chelsea have secured their first major signing of the summer. The Blues have been throwing money since the arrival of owner Todd Boehly, so far with little success. A major clean-up is now underway, according to English media, whereby various players would be accommodated in Saudi Arabia. It also lacked scoring ability.
Nkunku has scored seventy times in four seasons since his arrival at Leipzig and must meet that need. The shadow striker thus proved Paris Saint-Germain wrong, where he was unable to play due to the presence of the highly paid stars. Now Leipzig wants to shop in France again. Loïs Openda has come over from RC Lens, although that is not working as yet.
Chelsea receives offer from Man City for Kovacic
The game is on the wagon: Manchester City have made an offer for Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic. That reports The Athletic. The winner of the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup hopes to be able to pick up the Croatian for just under thirty million euros.
Chelsea had already given Kovacic permission to talk to Manchester City about personal terms, but all parties have now moved a step further. It is not exactly clear what Chelsea hopes to get for Kovacic, who still has a one-year contract in London. It is certain that Kovacic likes to make the step to the English champion. A deal is expected to come soon.
Kovacic (29) made the switch from Real Madrid to Chelsea in the summer of 2019 for 45 million euros. With the club from London he won the Champions League and the World Cup for clubs in 2021.
