Chelsea’s hammering at the hands of Manchester City: The analysts did not spare the Blues after the painful elimination in the battle for the FA Cup.
Former international Alan Shearer did not want to hear about injuries at the BBC as an apology for the lousy first half, in which the verdict was passed on Chelsea. “This performance is unacceptable. We said beforehand that they needed some energy and character. I don’t care how many injuries there are, you can still get on the field and go for it. They didn’t. It’s embarrassing,” Premier League’s record scorer criticised.
Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf pleads with ESPN for an intervention. “Enough is enough. Something has to change. This is not the club as I know it. This is not a club that wants to participate in Europe. They are so far from that idea. I have never seen Chelsea so disappointing in terms of effort. The players don’t have the drive or the courage to fight for the honour of the club. They have no pride,” a furious Leboeuf commented.
Heat on Havertz
The French former international aimed his poison arrows at the established order such as Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Jorginho. He added, “It’s embarrassing. I’m not talking about the youngsters like Hall, Chalobah, or Humpreys. I’m talking about the so-called leaders, about the players who make up the core. They do nothing. Mr. Havertz, what are you doing? Do something! Mason. I love you. But come on, do something! And I’m not going to say anything about Jorginho. I don’t know what he’s still doing on the field.”
Havertz also received the wind from its own fans. The German caused a penalty kick, which led to the 2-0 for Manchester City. “What kind of Superman arm was that?” one fan wrote in amazement at Havertz’s move.
