Evan Ferguson has signed with Brighton a contract until mid-2028. The performance of the eighteen-year-old Irishman is closely monitored by Manchester United, among others.
Brighton keeps top talent (18) out of the hands of English top clubs
The Brighton scouts found a gem on the Irish fields a few years ago. Ferguson came over from Bohemians in January 2021, at the age of sixteen. Things went quickly for the talented attacker at the Premier League club. He made his debut in the first team in January of last year and a month later became the youngest Brighton player ever to play in a Premier League game. This season, the four-time international has scored four goals for The Seagulls in the league.
According to The Athletic, Ferguson is emphatically on the radar at Manchester United, which will therefore have to be patient in the battle for the teenager due to this contract extension. Brighton coach Roberto de Zerbi thinks it is only logical that there is a lot of interest in Ferguson. “He plays and trains like a player with a lot of experience. He has already become very important for us and the aim is to help him become one of the strongest strikers in Europe.”
English top clubs have liked to shop at Brighton in recent transfer periods, which is praised for its good policy and number eight in the Premier League is performing excellently this season. Arsenal bought out Ben White and Leandro Trossard, Yves Bissouma went to Tottenham Hotspur and Marc Cucurella’s move to Chelsea became Brighton’s biggest outgoing transfer in club history. Chelsea put more than 65 million euros on the table for the left wing defender.
Man Utd and Spurs failed in battle for PL’s most coveted striker
He is perhaps Britain’s most coveted striker. Kylian Mbappé was already full of praise, while teammate Jan Paul van Hecke occasionally marveled at the training. Yet he has ignored the massive interest of the top clubs: Evan Ferguson.
The Irish powerhouse from Brighton & Hove Albion has been known to British youth scouts for years, after he made his debut for Bohemians at the age of fourteen (!) In a friendly game with Chelsea, the class immediately dripped off and the clubs in the Premier League were shaken up.
Brighton ran off with the striker. And in England Ferguson developed steadily. This season he broke through in the surprise of the season, thanks to manager Roberto de Zerbi’s confidence. In addition, he became the youngest goalscorer in 25 years in the shirt of the national team.
With this, Brighton seems to trump the interested Manchester United. Manager Erik ten Hag saw a future in the striker, but seems to be wrong. Tottenham Hotspur also made a case for the arrival of Ferguson. The Irishman was seen as the successor to Harry Kane. But a departure to North London is not in the cards for the time being.
