Crystal Palace 2-1 Leicester: Leicester City have parted ways with manager Brendan Rodgers. The coach, who has been with The Foxes since the beginning of 2019, has been sacked after the defeat at Crystal Palace. Roy Hodgson had a wonderful debut there.
Hodgson effect immediately causes the first victim
The experienced coach was appointed for the second time in London to save things. And thus started with a victory over Leicester. That defeat was the last straw for the club management. Leicester City who were crowned champion in 2016 under manager Claudio Ranieri, are currently in eighteenth place. And must therefore fear relegation from the Premier League.
“The performance in the current season is below our expectations,” said chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha on the club’s website. The club management hopes for a shock effect to avoid relegation in the last ten games of the season. Mike Stowell is in front of the group for the time being, which was also the case when Claude Puel was fired in February 2019.
Best attended game of the weekend is between League One clubs
Staying in England, last weekend, major teams in Europe played home games. Such as Bayern Munich, Napoli, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid and Manchester City. Yet it was a match between two teams from the English League One that attracted the most spectators in Europe.
Bolton Wanderers FC defeated Plymouth Argyle FC 4-0 in front of 79,389 spectators, more than Bayern Munich – Borussia Dortmund took place in the Allianz Arena. The game between Bolton Wanderers FC and Plymouth Argyle FC was of course not played at The Trotters stadium, but at Wembley.
This was the final of the Papa John’s Trophy, a tournament intended for teams from League One, League Two. And some promising teams from Premier League clubs. Bolton Wanderers FC won the award for the second time in the club’s illustrious history.
However, the 2019 Papa Johns Trophy Final featuring Portsmouth and Sunderland, which drew 85,021 spectators, is still the Papa Johns Trophy final with the biggest attendance since the new Wembley reopened in 2007–2008. This one ranked third in the competition’s history, which began in 1981–82.
