Football News: Everton manager Frank Lampard has dismissed talk of a “crisis” at the club, despite the fact that the Toffees might be in the Premier League relegation zone by the time they face Wolves on Sunday. Everton’s 5-0 defeat against Tottenham on Monday was the club’s fourth in five league games since Lampard took over, but he admitted it was tough to accept “immediate negativity” after defeats. Lampard started on Friday, in response to allegations of a “crisis” meeting, “I had seasons as a player when we had them (player meetings) and went on to win the Champions League.” It’s not that I’m bragging; it’s just the truth.
“The idea is we find the answer and solution. To hear players speak a bit is important for me and some players spoke and that’s good.
“But the ownership of it has to be mine as a coach. I am fresh to the club so sometimes I find it a bit hard to take the constant negativity which kicks in instantly here when something goes wrong because I don’t feel that.
“This is football, it happens and we have to correct it. The only way to correct it is by training well, showing resilience and showing character. That’s my message.”
Everton is one point above the relegation zone going into the weekend, but a win or draw for Burnley at Brentford on Saturday would send Everton into the bottom three before Wolves visit Goodison Park.
Everton will welcome back Ben Godfrey, who tore his hamstring in Lampard’s first game in early February, as well as forward Demarai Gray, who has been out with illness for the past two games.
“Perhaps there will be a change because we’ve had players back who haven’t been available,” Lampard speculated.
