France’s Didier Deschamps is receiving a gross annual salary of two and a half million euros since his contract extension in December 2019. An amount that can rise to three million euros with bonuses. This revelation from L’Équipe comes out in the run-up to the negotiation phase of the national coach about a new contract with France.
The coach who led France to second place at the World Cup in Qatar would receive at least 22,000 euros per match, according to the newspaper. Due to France’s good results, he would have had 290,000 euros left over from the last world championship. In total, Deschamps would have earned three million euros in 2022, amounting to 250,000 euros per month.
A generous salary, but nothing compared to what top trainers in European football receive. Pep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp are said to be allowed to add between eighteen and 22 million euros a year.
If France wants to continue with Deschamps, the national coach may demand better conditions. The former coach of AS Monaco, Juventus and Marseille would in any case be open to a new agreement up to and including the European Championship in 2024. Zinedine Zidane was also named as a successor, but is said to have shifted his interest to being a club coach in the meantime.
Adil Rami slams Emiliano Martínez
In other news, Adil Rami has made short work of Emiliano Martínez via his Instagram account. The goalkeeper of Argentina behaved disrespectfully towards Kylian Mbappé. And that went down the wrong way with the former World Cup winner.
During Argentina’s festivities, Martínez was captured with an image of a crying Mbappé on a cardboard sign. “The most hated man in football,” Rami, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, snaps at Martínez. “Mbappé traumatizes them so much. That they celebrate the victory over our prodigy more than their World Cup win,” he continues.
The 36-year-old defender, who currently plays for ESTAC Troyes, also had another message. Rami thought that the Golden Glove did not belong to Martínez, but to Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. “Golden Glove, that’s him,” he added.
