Gabby Agbonlahor: Liverpool’s Salah was arguably the best player in Europe in the 2nd half of 2021. This resulted in a long going contract standoff between the club and the player. As the Egyptian wanted to be paid a similar wage to that of Ronaldo or De Bruyne. The club, however, were reluctant to offer him those wages as they wanted to keep their wages balanced.
With no proper decision made on Salah’s situation, we now hear that Liverpool are looking to offer Sadio Mane a contract extension as well. However, similar to that of his strike partner, the Reds will not break the wage structure.
Agbonlahor has discussed this situation with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“100 percent they have to keep him,” Gabby Agbonlahor said.
“Mane’s been outstanding. Sometimes he can be hot and cold but recently he’s been very hot.
“It just shows that he can play in any role in that front three. He’s playing as a centre-forward at the moment and is doing a great job. He’s got movement, holding the ball up, running in behind.
“Whoever is sorting out the contracts at Liverpool is going to have a headache. Mane’s price is going up and up with these performances.”
