Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso admitted his men suffered in the first half after the Coppa Italia exit against Atalanta on Wednesday.
It ended at the Gewiss Stadium with a 3-1 loss and the next match is in Serie A against Juventus.
Still, he was delighted with the Azzurri players’ enthusiasm in the second.
The coach now said he doesn’t know whether his last chance to save the job will be the Juventus match.
It could be a decisive appointment for the former Milan coach, reports in Italy say, but Gattuso stressed that he does not think of the Cup game as the ‘penultimate’ in charge of the Partenopei.
“I don’t know, you have to ask the club,” he said according to the Daily Mail. “The captain of the ship is me, when things go badly, they are at the expense of the captain.
“I can’t think of this as the penultimate or last resort, I have to work and I have to be able to trust.
“I’m a coach, it’s like that. I won’t be the first, nor the last, but I have the duty to try until the end.”
