Hatayspor mourns the death of Taner Savut. The technical director of the Turkish club has died at the age of 48 from the consequences of the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria. It was already announced on Saturday that Hatayspor player Christian Atsu had not survived the natural disaster.
After the earthquakes in Turkey, Hatayspor already raised the alarm because Atsu and Savut had not yet been found. The player and the club’s technical director were still under the rubble. Atsu’s body was found on Saturday and it has now become clear that Savut has lost his life.
The long search for Christian Atsu’s body came to an end on Saturday. The agent of the former Vitessenaar brought out terrible news: Atsu did not survive the earthquakes in Turkey. The Ghanaian was only allowed to become 31 years old.
At Hatayspor, the last club Atsu served, they are in deep mourning. Not only the attacker, but also material man Onur Akdeniz did not come out alive from under the rubble. Hatayspor has blacked out its social media channels. The club reported that Atsu’s body will be taken to Ghana, where the sixty-time international will be buried.
The tributes
In his career, Atsu played for Newcastle United, Chelsea and so a year (2013/14) Vitesse. From the football world, statements of support appear from all sides after the sad news about the ex-player.
Atsu played his last game on February 5. He then came on as a substitute against Kasimpasa and scored the winning goal with a free kick (1-0). A day later, Atsu went missing.
Following the announcement of Ansu’s death, several Premier League clubs and other clubs across Europe mourned his death over the weekend.
“It is with great sadness that we learned that sporting director Taner Savut died in the earthquake disaster that hit our country,” writes Hatayspor. “Our condolences go out to his family and the Hatayspor community.”
Savut played in the past with Fenerbahçe, Göztepe and Alanyaspor, among others. After his career he became technical director at Manisa, the club he exchanged for Hatayspor in the summer of 2022.
