Celtic grabs eleventh national title in the last twelve years: Rangers record is coming into view
In the green part of Glasgow, winning the league title is the most normal thing in the world. Rangers are now a formidable competitor again, but in Edinburgh Celtic already celebrated their eleventh championship in the last twelve seasons.
Hearts was able to offer the list leader a long match, but still went down in the last quarter. Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyun-Gyu took Celtic by the hand in the Scottish capital. The Japanese scored the goals against Hearts, which had to continue with ten men just before the break. Alex Cochrane had to stop with a red card.
Rangers record in sight
With the 53rd national title, Celtic is getting closer to Rangers. The record champion, with 55 titles in the trophy cabinet, has not come close to the arch-rival this season. After the win over Hearts, Celtic is on 95 points from 34 games. Rangers amassed 80 points in 33 games. The Gers will play against Aberdeen on Sunday.
No Chelsea or Tottenham: Kompany underlines ambitions at Burnley
Staying in the UK, south of the border in England, Vincent Kompany has signed a long-term contract with Burnley, making it official that he will return to the Premier League as Burnley manager. The coach of the championship team was pulled, but with a new contract until 2028, Kompany underlined his ambitions with Burnley.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were two big clubs recently linked with Kompany, who has been manager of Burnley since last summer. He guided the club to the title in the Championship and thus direct promotion to the Premier League.
Burnley put a lot of faith in Kompany. It is not often that a manager signs such a long contract with a club. “Burnley felt good from the first moment, so it also feels good to sign a five-year contract,” said the Belgian coach on the club’s website. He had a contract for this until mid-2025.
