Ivan Perišić has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free from Inter Milan. The 33-year-old will reunite with former boss Antonio Conte in North London.
Having won league titles in three countries and the Champions League he will prove to be a useful addition to the Londoners.
Ex-Leeds United and England Under-21s striker, Noel Whelan commented on the transfer to Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s a free transfer,” Whelan said.
“He’s going into the market for someone he trusts, someone he’s worked with and he’s a big name as well.
“He knows European football and they are in the Champions League, I think it’s a really wise move from Conte.
“Yes, he’s getting what he wants but he’s getting what he wants because they were his demands when he came into Tottenham. Ivan Perišić got them Champions League football as well so he’s got extra money to spend, there was the £150million as well.
“He’s not paying out any fee for this player, it’s just pure wages. I think it’s good business, bringing in experience that you’re going to need in Europe next season. It’s a player that’s been there, seen it and done it.
“Conte is now showing he’s putting his stamp on the team. With three players from Italy that have come in now.”
