The biggest smile in the entire Bernabéu was on Jack Grealish on Tuesday night. The Englishman had enjoyed the stadium, the atmosphere and the fierce fight with Dani Carvajal during Real Madrid – Manchester City. He also shared with us a message that his mother sent him.
Beaming Grealish is living his dream and sharing text message from his mother
“I loved it. You may feel some nerves, but this is what you want to play football for, this is what you dream of. From a stadium like this, from a match like this,” Grealish beamed on BT Sports. The logical question: was the brutal elimination against the same team last year still something that worked in the minds of him and his teammates?
“We have a new team this year, we have learned so much. We have the perfect mix of experience and world-class youngsters. I’ve never felt more confident entering the field than with these players around me,” Grealish debunked that notion. Then the conversation turned to the fierce duels with Real right back Dani Carvajal. They have left their mark.
“I can’t count how many people told me beforehand that I didn’t know what was going to happen to me. It was a good fight, I enjoyed it. I’m tired. I’ve never had cramps before, but now I have, in both calves,” said Grealish, who, like his Spanish colleagues, was full of praise for Kevin De Bruyne, the man of the equalizer.
“This is life, innit?”
He continued, “We’ve all seen the games where they’ve had a few kicks, but tonight they defended very well. I thought we could only score from a shot from the second line. When that ball fell for Kevin it was unbelievable, we see him doing that every day in training. You wouldn’t choose anyone else to kick that ball.”
Grealish finally wanted to share a message from his mother with the world: “I enjoyed it immensely. Before the game I got a text from my mother saying that these are the nights I dreamed of as a boy. The whole world watched it. Sometimes you pinch yourself. I had no trace of nerves, but you do wonder: this is life, innit?”
