Ronald Koeman was recently announced as Barcelona’s new manager after Quique Setien’s dismissal.
And, after the club’s humiliating 8-2 victory over Bayern Munich in the quarter-final of the Champions League, he has a huge job of rebuilding the team on his hands.
The Catalan giants have already improved their field with the purchase of Miralem Pjanic from Juventus.
However, it is now speculated that the club will seek another experienced player in the form of Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Dutch outlet, Algemeen Daglad, says Koeman is eager to sign Liverpool’s Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum was a key player in the transformation of the Dutch side, who failed to qualify for the Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cups. Koeman believes that the 29-year-old could do a similar resurrection job with Blaugrana.
The Netherlands International has been with Liverpool since the summer of 2016, when he moved from Newcastle United, which had been relegated to the top flight back then.
Wijnaldum has been on his deal with the Premier League champions for just over 10 months, and so far, no progress has been made in extending the deal with the club.
And, although the Reds remain confident that they will commit him to a new contract, Koeman is said to be contemplating a meeting with the middlemen, with whom he has served in the Dutch national establishment for the last few years.
