Manchester City can win the Champions League and treble for the first time in the club’s history on Saturday. According to Kyle Walker, the English champion has an extra reason to beat Internazionale in Istanbul.
Walker reveals extra motivation for Manchester City towards the CL final
City rivals Manchester United won the treble in 1999 and to date are the only English team to have ever succeeded. For Manchester City, matching the arch-rival’s performance is an extra motivation, Walker says.
“To be mentioned in the same breath as United and Arsenal, we have to take the Champions League,” says the English right-back, who names Arsenal for the unbeaten 2003/2004 Premier League season, which earned the Londoners the nickname The Invincibles. “The United and Arsenal teams are probably among the best Premier League teams of all time. What we have done in recent years should certainly not be forgotten,” he continued.
Walker had to miss Manchester City’s Thursday training, but the international expects to be fit in time for next Saturday’s meeting with Internazionale. The connoisseurs already consider The Citizens the winner in advance, but the 33-year-old defender does not want to know about that. “It is not the case that we come onto the field on Saturday and just win. Inter must be regarded as a great team,” he concluded.
Lukaku predicts changing of the guard: “They will take over from Messi and Ronaldo”
In the upcoming years, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland will dominate the world of international football. Romelu Lukaku, who will face Manchester City of Haaland with Internazionale in the Champions League final on Saturday, predicts as much.
Lukaku is quite clear about who is the clear favourite on Saturday when speaking with CNN. The Belgian striker remarked, “It’s amazing to play against the finest team in the world. I simply want to take it all in. However, enjoy the buildup and go into it with the intention of winning.”
It is obvious that preventing City from winning the treble would be a very challenging challenge. Haaland is the most feared attacker in European football, according to manager Pep Guardiola. The 22-year-old Norwegian player set a record by finishing the Premier League with an amazing 36 goals. In 10 Champions League games, Haaland scored twelve goals.
New generation
Lukaku voiced his appreciation for the player, saying: “I think he will dominate world football together with Mbappé for the next ten years.” The Inter forward believes that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s reign of terror will soon end. As he put it, “They have to fight against the new generation… Haaland and Mbappé will really take over within two years.”
