Carlo Ancelotti was not pleased with the equaliser being allowed in the duel with Manchester City. The Italian coach of Real Madrid complained about an event in the run-up to the equaliser of the English top club. The ball would have been out.
Special 3D images angers Ancelotti
De Bruyne’s striking bang ensured that the game remained completely balanced, but in the run-up to the goal, the ball went over the sideline. This emerged from a 3D montage of sports channel BeIn. Bernardo Silva’s attempt to keep the ball inside therefore seemed in vain. Still, the arbitration let the situation run.
“The referee wasn’t paying attention,” Ancelotti said afterwards. The Italian was anything but happy with the situation. The coach himself stated that he saw it clearly: “The ball just went out. I saw it, so I don’t understand why the VAR was not used.”
Ancelotti received support from the studio from Arsène Wenger. The head of the Football Development Department at FIFA concluded that the VAR should indeed have looked. Yet it turned out that Ancelotti and Wenger were wrong. Former top arbitrator Itturalde González was able to confirm this in the Spanish sports newspaper AS.
“The VAR was not allowed to intervene,” the referee explained. “Even if the ball went a meter outside. Then it still wasn’t allowed. The ball came into the possession of Eduardo Camavinga. Technically, the ball changed possession as a result, creating a new situation. Because of that action, the VAR could never intervene.”
Father Haaland responds to collision with Real Madrid fans
Alfie Haaland made himself heard on social media on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday you could see how Erling Haaland’s father was escorted out of the stadium by security guards.
It was speculated that the father of Manchester City’s top striker Haaland went all out at the Santiago Bernabéu and even threw food at Real Madrid fans. Alfie himself qualifies that: ”Okay, Real Madrid fans were not happy that we celebrated Kevin De Bruyne’s goal. Apart from that we had to leave because they were not happy with the 1-1.”
Fifty-year-old Haaland also played for Manchester City in the past between 2000 and 2003. On Tuesday he saw how his son did not find the net once, but was left with an excellent starting position for the first semi-final of the Champions League.
The confrontation between Haaland Sr. and the fans of Real is remarkable. Son Erling has never hidden himself from wanting to come out for Los Blancos again. He would also take Spanish lessons.
