LaLiga president Javier Tebas does not think it is right that Real Madrid ‘complain’ about the distribution of television money in Spain. He again hands out a strong sneer at the Madrilenians.
Strong sneer at Real Madrid: “Don’t know what else they want”
Real Madrid believes that too little is being earned from LaLiga and therefore wants to participate in the so-called Super League. Tebas said, “Our clubs that appear on national television earn the same as clubs in the Premier League. Real Madrid complain and they complain, but they don’t deserve it, because they get as much as the Premier League clubs. That’s also why Barcelona and Real Madrid top the lists of the highest-income clubs. I don’t know what else they want.”
It is not the first time that Tebas and Real Madrid are at odds. ‘I know president Florentino Pérez well and have regularly sat at the table with him. I know how he feels about football in Spain and Europe. He believes that Real Madrid no longer needs to play on certain fields in Spain. He wants to play in a big league and uses the argument that LaLiga is too weak. And not enough money is generated for the big clubs,” said Tebas. “So I know how he feels about football, but he cheats with the Super League because he destroys Spanish football and he knows it because he is not stupid.”
“Florentino wants credit for founding the Super League”
The Spanish federation has been trying to play matches across the border for some time. In order to attract more attention. For example, it has already been suggested to play major matches such as Real Madrid – Barcelona in America. He added, “We can play matches in Saudi Arabia, such as the Super Cup, which is fine by me. But they don’t let us play official matches there because of ‘integrity’.”
Tebas believes that current football should not be tinkered with. He concluded, “This is the most watched sport in the world. Gianni Infantino (President of FIFA) wants a medal because he came up with the new World Cup for clubs, Florentino wants credit for founding the Super League, but in the end football is eleven against eleven and a match lasts ninety minutes.”
