With Barcelona being thrown into chaos by their 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League and the subsequent sacking of Quique Setien, Luis Suarez felt crushed by the situation.
But eventually, Luis Suarez was happy to get away from Barcelona and make a fresh start with Atletico Madrid.
However, it did hurt along the way. For one, he was sorry to leave Lionel Messi behind at Camp Nou.
Speaking after Uruguay’s 2-1 World Cup qualifying win against Chile, in which he scored his 60th goal for his country, Suarez described how he and Messi were both in the doldrums.
“I was not surprised about Messi because I know him very well, I knew the pain he felt,” Suarez said claim Goal.
“He felt they kicked me out of the club. There were other ways to do things correctly with me. They were six long years and that bothered him too. I see him as a friend and he knows how badly we suffered.
“I cried for what I was having to go through.”
But, in the end, he was happy to end his misery at Barcelona and to make a fresh start at Atletico Madrid.
