Luis Suárez’ impressive career seems to be nearing an end. The striker suffers from enormous physical complaints, Grêmio chairman Alberto Guerra has revealed.
Luis Suárez is running on gums, the end of his career is approaching
According to Esportes GZH, ‘El Pistolero’ would have already announced internally that he would put an end to his career. The 36-year-old attacker has been plagued by a lingering knee injury for some time. “He lives with constant pain in his right knee and receives regular medications and injections,” Guerra said. “He may need to get a prosthesis.”
“The limit has been reached,” the director of Suárez’s Brazilian club continued. “But when the limit will be reached, we don’t know.”
Despite the constant pain he experiences, Suárez managed to produce 14 goals and eight assists in 26 appearances for his Brazilian employer at Grêmio. The Uruguayan previously caused a furore at Nacional in his home country, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Ajax and FC Groningen.
Cruyff declares departure from Barça and expresses clear ambition
Jordi Cruyff is in his last days as sporting director of Luis’ former club Barcelona. In an interview with The Athletic, the 49-year-old driver elaborates on his departure from Catalonia. “I want to return as a manager.”
Cruyff was jointly responsible for the sporting policy at Camp Nou in the last two seasons. In his own words, the Amsterdammer did this out of club love. “Barca called me when the club was in a very difficult situation. I wanted to answer that call. Barça offered me a long-term commitment last year. But I opted for a short contract because I felt I wanted to be a manager again,” he revealed.
That ambition eventually led to his departure from Barcelona. At the same time, this seems to mean that Ajax need not hold out hope for the arrival of Cruyff as general manager. He said, “It was not an easy decision, but something I thought about for months. This is what I want to do. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to work as a sporting director anymore, because I’m prepared for both roles. But at the moment I prefer the coaching profession. That feels like the best choice to me.”
MLS and La Liga
During his tenure at Barcelona, Cruyff received several offers to become a coach again. “Also from clubs in the MLS, but then I couldn’t say yes. I am open to different situations and speak several languages. When I was in China, I also received offers from La Liga. But I wanted to respect my contract. Timing is everything. I’m going to see what offers come up and how I feel about it,” he concludes.
