Morocco 0-0 Peru: Morocco and Peru did not get further than a goalless draw during a friendly match in Madrid on Tuesday evening. Both countries ended the game with ten men after referee José Luis Munuera handed out red cards.
Peru internationals clash with Spanish police
Peru’s preparation for the friendly match against Morocco was seriously disrupted. Players got into an argument with Spanish police upon arrival at the hotel in Madrid.
Peru’s selection was met at the hotel by dozens of fans. The internationals were serenaded and greeted enthusiastically. Things went wrong when the difference between players and supporters was no longer clear to the police. Midfielder Yoshimar Yotún, among others, was pushed hard by an agent.
After pushing, the situation quickly escalated. The Peruvian players bit themselves off and blows seemed to be dealt to each other. Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and attacker Álex Valera would even have been briefly arrested after the skirmishes.
Morocco and Peru end exhibition match with ten men
Morocco already practiced against Brazil on Saturday and then surprisingly won 2-1. The semi-finalist of the World Cup in Qatar also hoped to entertain the crowd in Madrid, where the match against Peru was played. National coach Walid Regragui chose Hakim Ziyech, Noussair Mazraoui, Zakaria Aboukhlal and Sofyan Amrabat, among others, in the base.
With the foursome within the lines, it was Morocco that had the best chances for the opening goal in the first half. There weren’t many, but on the other hand Peru hardly became dangerous. That happened a number of times after the break, even after Aboukhlal was taken aside by Regragui.
At Peru, Feyenoord player Marcos López was substituted at the start of the second half. Edison Flores took over his spot. FC Emmen defender Miguel Araujo later came in for the South Americans, where Eredivisie well-known Renato Tapia was in the starting line-up.
In the end, no goals were scored in the Wanda Metropolitano, but two red cards were still handed out. Morocco’s Sofiane Boufal and Peru’s Carlos Zambrano did not make it to the end of the game. Zambrano fouled Boufal, after which the Moroccan attacker kicked in the eyes of the referee.
