Paolo Fernandes has signed for AEK Athens from Volos for an undisclosed fee. However, he will make a permanent move only on 1 January 2023. As he will stay with Volos on loan for the rest of 2022.
Fernandes has signed a five year deal at the Agia Sophia Stadium. This should keep him with the club until June 2027.
The former Manchester City man has made 92 appearances at the club level. He has competed in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Greece.
AEK announced: “PAE AEK announces the acquisition of Paolo Fernandes from the Volos team N.P.S. Paolo Fernandez belongs to our team from today and will continue to play on loan in Volos until 31/12/2022. His contract with AEK is valid until June 2027.
“Paolo Fernandez was born on August 19, 1998 in Zaragoza. His father is from Cape Verde and his mother is Spanish. He started playing football in Zaragoza’s academies.
“In 2013 at the age of 15, he went to Manchester City. He competed in the K18, K21 and K23 teams. With the latter, in the 2016-2017 season he scored 11 goals in 22 appearances for Division 1 of the Premier League 2.
“In the next two seasons he played on loan in the Dutch Brenda and then for a season in the Italian Perugia. In the 2020-2021 season he played in the Spanish Castegion in the second division and in the summer of 2021 he was acquired by the Volos team.
“He ended the 2021-2022 season with 30 appearances in the Super League and the Greek Cup, scoring 6 times and providing 3 assists. This season, he has so far made 4 league appearances with 1 goal and 2 assists.
