Paris Saint-Germain are preparing Parc de Princes to host Bayern Munich for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals second leg. With the match tomorrow, head coach Mauricio Pochettino talks about PSG vs Bayern.
Paris Saint-Germain have the opportunity to rewrite history. Last season, in the thick of the coronavirus pandemic, Bayern Munich beat PSG. They defeated them 0-1 in the Champions League final to become the title-winners.
That was in 2020, however. PSG has since had a change of coaches. And new coach Mauricio Pochettino wants to lead his team toward revenge.
He said, per Goal: “It’s a question of collective attitude, of the approach to the match that we will have. It will not only be necessary to defend, but also to keep the ball, to hurt the opponent. This is the challenge that we will face tomorrow, and we will have to bring back a good result.”
Thus, PSG can avenge the final’s loss they suffered under Thomas Tuchel against Bayern. But PSG’s performance against Barcelona in the second leg of the last-16 worries Pochettino. After all, they could only scruff up a dismal 1-1 after 1-4 away in the first leg.
And Pochettino remarked: “Barcelona is a thing of the past, it’s Bayern against us, it’s the best team in the world. Of course, Bayern will put us in difficulty. We must be strong, united.”
The Argentine then emphasized the importance of having a full squad available when Bayern arrive in Paris: “Against Barcelona at home, we had a lot of difficulty keeping the ball despite the presence of Verratti and Paredes in the team. It is not a question of names.”
