The pressure on Oliver Kahn, the Bayern Munich president continues to increase. After Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against FSV Mainz, Lothar Matthäus did not mince words about the way Bayern are led.
Matthäus further increases pressure on Bayern boss Kahn
German media report that Oliver Kahn’s position is under considerable pressure. The club would consider sending him out in the short term. Matthäus took it a step further in an interview with Sky Deutschland. “At Bayern things are going wrong both at the front and at the back. You have to be honest about that. Both on and off the field,” Matthäus said.
“You have attracted players that you were praised for this season, but they are not coming out. And in the end, the change of coach didn’t help either, really nothing,” he added. Bayern fired trainer Julian Nagelsmann a few weeks ago and appointed Thomas Tuchel as the new coach. Since then, Bayern have only won two of their seven games played.
In addition, Matthäus also individually criticises Kahn, with whom he had many successes as a player with Bayern in the past. “I think Oliver Kahn is very unhappy with the situation. Perhaps he underestimated this great legacy a bit as CEO of Bayern. Dark clouds have gathered at the club. It doesn’t look right now. The responsible people must take a critical look at themselves,” he said.
Mazraoui gets more perspective on playing time at Bayern Munich due to Davies’ injury
Noussair Mazraoui can look forward to more playing time in the remainder of the season. The defender was only six Bundesliga games in the starting line-up, but now sees Alphonso Davies drop out with an injury.
Bayern Munich not only lost 3-1 against FSV Mainz on Saturday, but also lost the lead and Davies. After only ten minutes he had to stop the fight with a hamstring injury. After the first medical examinations, Bayern Munich concludes that the Canadian is ‘not taking action for the time being’. German media are even talking about the end of the season for Davies.
One’s death is another’s bread. Annoying news for Davies of course, but it offers opportunities for his competitor Mazraoui. The former Ajax player came on Saturday as a substitute for Davies and can therefore hope for playing time in the coming weeks. The Moroccan international can play at both left back and right back.
With that, he was preferred against Mainz to Daley Blind, who has little time to play anyway. He was in the starting line-up once and was allowed to come on in three Bundesliga games. In Germany people are therefore convinced that Blind will leave Munich next summer.
